PAX 3 Review: What fun!

A super shiny PAX 3 Limited Edition Rose Gold is the latest addition to my family of vaporizers and boy I can say she is definitely one of my absolute favourites; from the packaging to the device, I am incredibly pleased, the PAX is amazing from start to finish!

Unboxing and opening up the magnetic box it was clear they put a lot of thought and care into their packaging, this was an experience that left a huge grin on my face, I felt extreme built up excitement upon receiving her, from slicing open the warranty seal, to the clean, elegant and sophisticated PAX 3 you are presented with. A sparkling new feel to the packaging with a touch of class! Now, this is a company that takes pride in their work, everything neatly fits in and has a place; you almost don’t want to touch anything as it looks so perfect sitting there.
A grin from ear to ear as I held my PAX 3, delighted she was finally mine, precious!

Inside the box you will also receive, 2 mouthpieces, one flush and one slightly raised, 2 options of dry herb oven lids, one for a half packed oven and one for a full packed oven. They also provide a concentrate insert, maintenance kit as well as 3 spare screens a multi-tool, charging cable and dock.

Now as far as the build quality goes the PAX 3 vaporizer is one I am impressed with, I love the beautiful LED display lights and the new high polish shiny finish where fingerprints and scratch marks may appear more prominent but she still looks amazing. The vaporizer feels sturdy and having no moving parts I can see this one lasting longer than the technology they used.

The PAX 3 is packed with new features and getting to know all her settings and options at first was a little tricky, as she is certainly more hi-tech than most of the competitors, however fun and easy to use once mastered. She’s elegant, stylish and completely fits into my lifestyle. I love how neatly she packs away into my pocket and how beautifully she is designed.

New Features
One of the biggest upgrade in the PAX 3 is the introduction of the Bluetooth technology that allows you to pair the unit with its free app available for both iOS and Android smart phone and the option to fully customize your vaping experience.
The well designed PAX Vapor App lets you set a Dynamic Mode or simply adjust the temperature to your exact requirement; you are able to choose between colour schemes as well as toggle through the fun and typically “stoner-like’ game Simon.
As I was saying you can now choose between 5 Dynamic Modes, as PAX calls them, which is essentially a heating mode and the best way to find out which one of these better suit your vaping habits and preferences is to experiment. Below is a quick look at the preset Dynamic Modes and my thoughts:

• Standard – this is the default setting for the PAX 3, temp boosts when you draw and auto cool's when you don’t – the perfect setting for an all-round session.
• Boost – keeps your device in high gear, temp boosts aggressively and cools slower, get what you need with speed. This option will no doubt blaze through your herb quickly so no stalling while on this setting, this is what you will pick when you want fast and massive cloud sessions or if you are wanting to use a water tool, you will also find the exterior will heat up more on this setting.
• Efficiency – don’t waste a drop, the temp ramps up gradually throughout your session by one-degree increments while you draw, in addition to standard temp boost and auto-cooling, more economical and long lasting. It’s a great setting if you want to vape to do the thinking for you.
• Stealth – for ultimate discretion. LED’s dim and auto cools fast; reduced material odour means more privacy. Ideally for those who want to vape discreetly… or when your boss is in the next office and you don’t want to wait for your tea break…

And there is my personal favourite and most used mode,

• Flavour – the most delicious possible, temp boost quicker while you draw and decreases quicker after you draw. The most on demand heating ever, this mode certainly helps to preserve the flavour but is also great for the pre-occupied vaper such as myself.

I also noticed the PAX 3 has a Standby Mode whereby when you put the vape down for a few moments it auto cool and when you pick up the vape again
it immediately starts heating. Nice feature to use when you are looking to have a couple of puffs every now and then.

The PAX 3 like the PAX 2 comes with 4 pre-set temperatures: 182C, 193C, 204C, 215C, as well as a new 5th temperature setting which can be customized to be anywhere between 182/215 Celsius.

The vibration alert, which is something becoming more common in the newer vapes, is also a new feature added to this latest generation PAX; the vibration is subtle not obtrusive and completely customizable when paired with the free PAX Vapor App.

The additional oven lids also make this a great buy, having the options to choose between dry or concentrate and the half or full loads. I personally find the airflow and session to be more comfortable and tasty on a half oven, I have also noticed that my herb vaporizers more evenly than with the full load oven lid and unless sharing my session I prefer to use the half oven lid.

Vapor quality is really good on any of the modes you select; clouds of tasty cool vapour and ready in 15 seconds; I giggle to myself sometimes as you can smell it as soon as it is ready just moments before it vibrates you get a quick whiff of what’s baking in the oven. Oven capacity is between 0.2 and 0.3g and will give you a good 20/25 draws of great tasting vapour however this will depend on the mode selected as well as your grind, with the PAX you want the grind to be fine and packed into oven nice and tight, but be sure not to pack it down too much as you still need efficient airflow through your herb.

The battery life has also been improved from its predecessor: battery’s capacity went up from a 3000 mAh to a 3500 mAh giving you a good 7-8 sessions’ depending on mode and whether or not you are playing Simon on your PAX… good thing she charges up quick, in about 2 hours you will be good to go again, as unfortunately there is no pass through here!

When it comes to cleaning and maintenance the PAX 3 is one of the easiest to upkeep, literally took me 3 min to clean her out completely; I used a small amount of ISO to clean up the screen and then a small amount on one of the convenient pipe cleaners they provide to clean out the vapour path. Once I had wiped down the oven lids and mouthpiece I let them dry out for an hour or so just to ensure all ISO alcohol had evaporated, she was good as new.
Another great thing about the PAX Vape is their 10-year manufacture warranty, like I said this device will long outlast the technology used.

Final Thoughts

Concluding, the PAX 3 in my opinion is the best ‘All-rounder’ I have tried so far, granted I still have many out there to try however this one is my personal TOP PICK.
The PAX 3 tick all the (my) boxes with a captivating design, high level of discreetness, market leading technology and top performance….which is what matters the most, isn’t?
Looking at the price tag when comparing the PAX 3 to its predecessor PAX 2, I would say that the former is certainly worth the extra amount they are selling for.

Who would have thought something I choose on design and limited edition status would actually end up being my favourite and most used vaporizer, two thumbs up on this one!
